Media Magazine Notes On Race and Ethnicity

British Stereotyping

The main problem for race and ethnicity is that stereotyping is such a heavy factor in days society with any media outlet. On page 51 the column talks about specific lyric from Dizzee Rascal's music video Bonkers "...Some people think I’m bonkers/but I jus’ think I’m free/man, I’m jus’ livin’ my life/there’s nothin’ crazy ‘bout me..." In that music video it showcases Dizzee Rascal in stereotypical clothing for any black person due to how popular the existing stereotype is already. With the success of the British "Hood" Genre in the early 2000's a lot of films where made during that time period and all stared black males playing the stereotypical roles in each film with:

Sket
Anuvahood
Rollin with the Nines
Shank
Ill Manors
Bullet Boy

However in 2010 we had some progress with a BBC program called Luther staring Idris Elba as a black detective and this was a great movie because they didn't proved any special attention unless it was problems that a minority may face in their job the fact that the character was black and that he is a normal man like anybody else which was brilliant to see and can't wait to see more content like this however the moment when Idris Elba was rumored to be the next James Bond there was a massive backlash with blind ignorance due to the only reason why they didn't want Idris Elba was that he was black  in which isn't a factor for a character that is purely fictional.
